All HP 3PAR StoreServ storage arrays are installed in combination with a physical (3PAR 7000 and 10000) or virtual Service Processor (3PAR 7000). This Service Processor is one of the core components in the installation since it is permanently monitoring the 3PAR StoreServ and does alerting to HP and the customer in case of issues.

  • is there some impact when I add the new license ?

  • I must to connect the green cable before the red cable(DP-2, DP-1) ?

  • When I put the 3PAR in maintenance mode, I must to shutdown the virtual machine on the 3PAR ?

  • When I connect the disk enclosure, I must to add hard drive one by one or add the 3PAR with fully disk inside ?

My Plan:

  • Check if your system is healthy 'checkhealth -svc - detail'

  • Check if the system is licensed for the total number of disks. CLI: showlicense and setlicense (with the correct license)

  • Put the 3PAR into maintenance mode

  • Connect the red and green chain of cables(DP-1 and DP-2). Wait around 5 minutes.Do a checkhealth -svc -detail and see the fact that the new enclosure appeared and is having 'incorrect' number of connections.Then disconnect and reconnect green chain of cables. Plan the movements and do this as fast as you can! wait for 5 minutes, again, then do a checkhealth -svc -detail!

  • Submit the new Hardware: CLI 'admithw -ni'

  • Check again, everything with 'checkhealth -svc -detail'

After that I create the RAID, Volume etc.
